2nd Annual I Love Couture Fashion Show at Suite 200
I Love Couture Show at Suite 200
Saturday, July 30th was the second night of a two-night 2nd Annual I Love Couture show at Suite 200. Hosted by Nicole Fox, winner of America?s Next Top Model Cycle 13, the second night was the Haute Couture Show, and Friday night featured street wear. There were eight designers lined up, including Rae Marie?my designer. She had fifteen pieces and fifteen models, so there was no need to quick change.
As a model the more fashion shows I do, the more I realize waiting is the name of the game. We were called for hair and makeup in groups every hour between 1:00 and 4:00 pm, and the show wasn?t even set to start until 10:00 pm. I got there at four and only one model?s hair and makeup from the first group had been finished. Later, more hairstylists and makeup artists showed up, so the pace moved quicker? But I was last to finish around 8:30 pm.
The waiting, however, is not all that bad. Models, despite their reputation, are very friendly and personable?at least the ones I?ve met. So it?s kinda like just chilling with the girls: gossiping, reading magazines, eating and listening to music.
After hair and makeup, we all headed over to Suite 200. They checked everyone?s ID?s and for models under 21 (myself included) had to sign a contract and the club kept our ID?s during the show. The deal was, if we didn?t get out of there and collect our ID?s by a certain time, the club sheriff would come arrest those remaining.
So not only was I denied an after-party, my almost 21-year-old boyfriend couldn?t come to see me do my thing. I really wanted him to be involved, as the possibility of modeling presents the possibility of travel and time away from him. It?s been something we both are bittersweet about. Then again, I haven?t even gotten any offers yet, so I shouldn?t get ahead of myself.
My boyfriend understood, and was really supportive of me nonetheless. He said he wished he could be there, but was proud of me and knew I would do good.
Because I was last, I didn?t get a chance to practice on or even see the runway. All I kept hearing was that it was really slippery. Our choreography included a face-off and turn with the model we were passing on our way on and off the runway, and the last thing I wanted to do was slip and eat it during my big moment.
More waiting ensued?in small back rooms with tons of models. It was crowded and hot, and the show didn?t even start until 11:00.
Everyone looked great though. As Rae Marie and her assistants did finishing touches on all of our outfits?sewing on straps, buttons and steaming garments, I looked around at the other collections. Outfits ranged from artistic and outrageous to very wearable. One collection was mostly yellow silk with caped and hoods and the girls had glitter on their faces and one wore a fox-head hat. It reminded me of little red riding hood except yellow. One dress from another collection was huge and metallic gold?stunning with a detailed form-fitting pattern. It was big though and I was glad I didn?t have to work that out on the runway.
When we were almost on, I got my long sleeved one-piece jumpsuit sewn on. It had no zipper, so we had to wait in case I needed to use the bathroom. All the girls accessorized and we lined up. Then we wished each other good luck, and we were on our way!
The music was pumping, and it felt like a regular hot night-club vibe. People were sitting along the sides of the narrow elevated runway, and if we went off the edge we would fall onto their drinks. Some gave the show their full attention, while others were doing their own thing at their VIP tales. We were escorted out two by two.
Minutes before I hit the runway, the butterflies set in. I feel short of breath, like I need an oxygen mask. My whole body goes light and tingly and my teeth are practically chattering. But when I step onstage, everything is calm, almost still. All I can focus on is not falling off and hoping my face looks something like fierce.
I step off, and an incredible high sweeps through me. All the adrenaline melts into a relived rush of endorphins. Then the final walk-through, and it?s all over. Ten hours of waiting, practicing, sweating, getting made up, laughing, panicking and it all ends in a ten-minute show, only one of which you?re in. Wild ride. Well worth it.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are having the time of their lives in Hawaii. With Theroux's 40th birthday on Aug. 10, the couple touched down in paradise on Sunday on a trip that Aniston's "Wanderlust" costar originally planned with Heidi Bivens, his former longtime girlfriend.
So what have the sexy twosome been up to?
PHOTOS: Jen's bikini bod through the ages
On Monday evening, they shopped for gifts and checked out antique artifacts and jewelry for half an hour at the Lotus Gallery. "They were the only people in the store and seemed extremely relaxed and happy," a source says of the giggling pair. "Jennifer was hugging Justin from behind."
Finally, the pair made their choice -- a small Buddha tattoo -- and kissed at the register as a clerk wrapped it up.
PHOTOS: Jen's hair history
"When they left the store, Jennifer was massaging Justin's shoulders from behind, and he turned around and said something that made her laugh hysterically," the insider says. "They seemed giddy in love and genuinely happy together."
Story: Watching 'Horrible Bosses' is like going to work
Later that night, wrapped Buddha statue in hand, they headed to Ben Stiller and wife Christine Taylor's estate for Taylor's 40th birthday bash.
PHOTOS: Who else has Jen dated?
"Jennifer hung out with Christine but never got too far from Justin. They seemed to have a good time but didn't stay too long before they headed back to their house for the night," the source adds.
PHOTOS: Where else do celebs love to escape to?
On Tuesday, they left their rented house in a Jeep for a lunchtime treat -- buying a roadside coconut from a local woman, according to a source. Later in the day, Theroux went for a brisk half-hour jog through the fields surrounding their posh vacation digs. "Justin has a great body and working out is a big part of his life," an Aniston source tells Us.
This right here is trendsetting in action: blue, obviously, is the new black. Er, blonde.
In any case, one of Hollywood's hottest and most fashionable starlets made the rounds last night, but for once it wasn't her trendsetting wardrobe that caught our eye. Instead, it was her follicular embracing of a brand-new section of the color wheel.
So, which stylish star showed off the shockingly dyed tresses? Who's blue tips are these?

It's Kate Bosworth!
While attending the star-studded (and Amy Winehouse-tributing) Coldplay gig in Los Angeles last night, Kate?and her (for now) mystery date?showed off the daring 'do for a flock of paparazzi.
Whether it was a rare wrong foot for the fashionista favorite or the launching of an all news trend remains to be seen. But not many people can make blue look this good.
Smurfette excluded, obviously.

Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humphries is about as close to a royal wedding as Americans will get, so who will design the reality star's gown?
E! Online reports that Kim K. will be wearing Vera Wang when she glides down the aisle on August 20.
"What a glorious moment!" Vera told E! News exclusively. "I am so thrilled to be dressing Kim for her wedding to Kris Humphries!"
In June, the Kardashians, close friends of Vera's, were snapped at the Vera Wang Bridal House about a month after the engagement was announced.
In addition to her gown, another big news item concerning Kim's wedding also broke today. ET has learned that Mark's Garden will be doing the flowers for the big event.
More than 9 million viewers tuned in to The Bachelorette season finale Monday night and watched Ashley Hebert get engaged to the man of her dreams, New York construction manager J.P. Rosenbaum.
But they also saw Hebert's sister, Chrystie Corns, loudly voice her disapproval of Rosenbaum as a mate for her sister.
"I made a big mistake," Corns tells PEOPLE of hastily judging Rosenbaum and telling him he wasn't a good match for Ashley. "As I started watching the season, however, it's very clear to me that J.P. was the one. He was the best choice."
On the May afternoon that they all met, Corns was singing a different tune. From the start, she told Hebert and Rosenbaum she didn't see a connection between the two of them, even going as far as telling both that she saw more of a bond between her sister and Brad Womack on The Bachelor last season.
"What I didn't take into consideration at that point was that she had been on this eight-week journey and she was really tired," says Corns, noting that Ashley is usually much more animated, especially around her family.
Corns (who appeared on the first season of TLC's Extreme Couponing) has since apologized to Hebert and Rosenbaum, whom she now refers to as her sister's "knight in shining armor" for being such a rock all season long. Corns says she and Hebert are "the best of friends." As for Rosenbaum, he isn't letting her off the hook just yet.
"I'm totally apologetic, I feel like a jerk ? I want to make it up to him but he won't let me forget it," Corns says with a laugh. "J.P. says if he has anything to do with it I'm going to have to fight for the right to be maid of honor."

She?s had a busy summer, and on Wednesday night (August 3) Ashley Tisdale was spotted at the premiere of ?Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension.?
The ?High School Musical? babe was all smiles as she arrived at the El Capitan Theatre in West Hollywood for the big event, with her sister Jennifer on-hand to offer up support.
For the film, Ashley teamed up with a host of wonderful talent, including Kevin James, Sigourney Weaver, and Dee Bradley Baker.
?Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension? is about Perry's worst fear coming true when Phineas and Ferb finds out that he is in fact Secret Agent P, but that soon pales in comparison during a trip to the 2nd dimension where Perry finds out that Dr. Doofenshmirtz is truly evil and successful.
Enjoy the pictures of Ashley Tisdale at the premiere of ?Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension" (August 3).
Though she?s currently one of Hollywood?s hottest stars, Lea Michele remembers a time when she was told she?d never make it. ?How many managers told me, ?Get a nose job. You?re not pretty enough??? she recalls in the September issue of Harper?s Bazaar. ?But I proved them wrong.?
Now one of Glee?s soon-to-be graduates, Michele is savoring her status ? and eyeing her next steps. ?I don?t stop,? she says of her booming career. ?It?s my nature. People have to tell me to slow down. I plan on playing every role on Broadway ? I want to do movies, make music. Glee is only the beginning.?
And while some may see her ambition as snobbery, she says she and her castmates are just seizing the moment. ?People have to remember this is all new for us,? she explains. ?We?re all reasonably young ? I?ve learned some lessons. But people are going to say what they want to say. I know who I am, and I?m not perfect.?
What she is, though, is stylish; lately, she?s been hitting red carpets in looks by Versace, Escada and Oscar de la Renta, and graces Bazaar?s pages in Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Valentino, Moschino and Lanvin. But fashion still feels new to the star. ?I?m five-foot-three,? she muses. ?I don?t look like a lot of other people, you know what I mean? I look like I?m 12.?
Admitting she?s ?not a big spender,? she says she?s happiest at home with her Broadway beau, Theo Stockman. ?What I do is what I do, and what he does is what he does, and when I come home, we have each other,? she says. For more with Michele, visit harpersbazaar.com/leamichele.

Becoming the company's latest Hollywood connection, Demi Moore was selected for the Fall 2011 ad campaign for fashion powerhouse Anne Taylor.
The 48-year-old, who replaces Katie Holmes as the brand's face, will appear in a slew of promotional prints shot atop NYC's Rockefeller Center Gardens beginning in September.
Hearkening back to the days when she would shop the retailer's wares, Demi says she's right at home in her new role, telling press, "I feel like I?ve known Ann Taylor since I was a kid. I?ve watched the clothes move into support for the working woman."
Moore's excitement for her new gig also comes from the growth she has seen from the company, as she explained, "I look back at Ann Taylor and for quite a while, they were geared toward the working woman, a lot of suiting, and a little more conservative. I think, as we've evolved into things that literally go from working out to work to weekend, from day into night, that there has to be a combination of practicality and a sense of fun."
This starlet donned an extravagant, red headdress and a teeny-weeny bedazzled bikini in honor of a festival that took place in her home country.
It's not surprising to see her in such a getup, because one thing she's definitely famous for is her sense of edgy fashion.
And although she loves to set an example, she's not trying to be anyone's role model, so don't get any ideas, little girls. Just because so-and-so is wearing next to nothing doesn't mean you should go and strut this look at the local mall.
So who is this sexy and fierce celeb?

If you guessed Rihanna, you're right!
The singer returned to her native land of Barbados for the colorful street bash celebrating the annual Kadooement Day parade, where she was the Carnival Queen.
So what the heck is Kadooement Day?
It's an ancient tradition and public holiday in Barbados, which involves people masquerading in costumes that consist of natural materials and takes place during the Crop Over Festival. The event rejoices the end of the sugar cane crop harvest and acknowledges the crop sacrifices made to the gods for good luck.
Ri-Ri was spotted shaking her booty (Get it, girl!) with friends and (we can assume) wowing those around her with a barely there costume.
Before taking part in the parade, Rihanna gave a shout-out to her motherland via Twitter: "My home, my country, my people....BARBADOS!!! #1LOVE #SWEETfahDAYS NOTHIN' BETTER! #RihannaNavy Miss u guys tho."
PHOTOS: Look at some of Rihanna's other daring wardrobe choices!
Bret Michaels continued to make tremendous progress in his recovery this weekend -- and one source close to the singer tells us the whole thing is nothing short of "amazing."
We're told Bret was "very aware" and in a "good mood" this weekend during an evaluation with a specialist -- the singer was even described as "somewhat talkative."
It's a major improvement from the "critical" state Bret was in after suffering a massive hemorrhage near his brain stem back on April 23 -- a condition that can often be fatal if not treated quickly by experienced professionals.
Alexis Knapp gave her daughter Ryan Phillippe?s last name before the paternity test
Several months ago, Ryan Phillippe?s ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp announced her pregnancy, and everybody capable of basic math figured out that she had gotten pregnant during the tailend of her relationship with Ryan. Ryan is kind of douchey, though, and he made a big deal about how he needed a paternity test for the baby. Maybe Ryan realized that he was being a d-bag about it, because when Alexis gave birth to daughter Kai, Ryan made a point of being there. By the way, Alexis and Ryan both played some games in the media, and you could tell that Alexis was kind of pissed that Team Phillippe basically said she was sleeping around.
Anyway, TMZ got their hands on baby Kai?s birth certificate, and as it turns out, Alexis isn?t waiting around for the paternity test (which I can?t believe hasn?t gone down yet). Alexis went ahead and named her kid Kailani Phillippe-Knapp. Damn, girl.
Although paternity test results have yet to be revealed, the actor has allowed Alexis Knapp to give her daughter his surname.
So, we?re assuming Ryan Phillippe IS the father of model Alexis Knapp?s baby girl. TMZ obtained the little girl?s birth certificate and although Ryan is not listed as her father, the document shows that Alexis named the baby Kailani Phillippe-Knapp. Interesting?
Ryan has promised to pay child support to Alexis if it turns out he is the father of Kailani. He is awaiting DNA test results in order to prove his paternity, but with the birth certificate and the fact that he was in the delivery room when Alexis gave birth, it?s assumed that he is the baby?s daddy.
Ryan already has two children, Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.
[From Holly Baby]
I wonder if Alexis will have to rename her baby once the paternity test comes through? Ha, no, I?m pretty sure Ryan is the father. What are the thoughts on using the father?s surname, but only hyphenated before the mother?s maiden name? I think if you?re a single mom giving the kid your maiden name, just don?t even mess with the father?s name. The kid?s name, in my mind, should have just been Kailani Knapp, with no ?Phillippe? after and certainly not before Knapp. But I suspect that Alexis just added the Phillippe as a ?screw you? to Ryan.

Now that her necklace-stealing scandal is in the past, Lindsay Lohan managed to laugh at her legal woes during a puppet sketch.
While on house arrest back in April, the ?Mean Girls? star sat down for an interview with a furry puppet for the New Zealand TV show ?On the SkyCouch with Rico.?
As the puppet poked fun of the situation, Lohan was a good sport about it and even mustered up a few laughs.
At one point, the puppet handed Linds a box containing a necklace as a thank you for doing the show and jokingly added, ?It?s all paid for!?

But I suspect that Alexis just added the Phillippe as a ?screw you? to Ryan.
